Exhibition Opening for “Color Is Light”

Join us for an exhibition opening on September 1, 2023 from 5:00-7:30PM for Color Is Light, a solo exhibition by Edie Read. An artist talk will be held at 6PM.

In celebration of the launch of the 14th season of New City Arts’ exhibitions, wines selected by Tasha Durrett, founder and owner of Black Women Who Wine, will be served. Many thanks to Market Street Wine for sponsoring this event. In addition to wine, light snacks and seltzer will be available. The event is free and open to the public.

Exhibition Information: For gallery hours, exhibition dates, artist statement, and artist bio, visit the exhibition page here.

By day Tasha Durrett leads communications for the Southern Environmental Law Center’s Virginia office, regional environmental justice initiative, and regional program focused on transportation and land use. But by afternoon and weekend, she is building more diverse spaces in Virginia wine. As the founder and owner of Black Women Who Wine LLC, Tasha is focused on increasing the visibility and participation of Black women in the wine industry and agritourism throughout the state, but especially in central Virgina. The organization holds curated wine events centered on Black women. Tasha also offers private tastings and collaboration on events and wine tours. She is a WSET Level 1 and has a special interest in hybrid grapes and grape growing in the Southern U.S.

When she’s not focused on wine or environmental communications, Tasha enjoys being part of the Loaves and Fishes’ Board of Directors, reading, and visiting friends in different cities.

Located at 114 3rd St. NE, Welcome Gallery is downtown, storefront art space in Charlottesville, VA, run by New City Arts Initiative, a non-profit community arts organization. This same location houses NCAI staff offices and a studio space.
