Lauren Plank Goans
Artist Exchange, Artist-in-Residence, Artist Interview, Featured Artist
Lauren Plank Goans is a visual artist, songwriter, and performer whose creations flow from a desire to move through the world with attention, vulnerability and care. She makes up one half of @lowlandhum, the hush folk band she formed with her husband after they started writing together in 2012. Combining her love of the natural world with an interest in the resourceful homesteading traditions of her ancestors, both her art and process preserve a quietude that is the antithesis of the frenetic pace of her life on the road as a touring musician. Since moving out to the country and realizing some of her Laura Ingalls Wilder aspirations from childhood, she has become the handy-person around the house, the catcher-and-releaser of indoor bugs, an avid amateur gardener, and an obsessive observer of the squirrel lifestyle. For Lauren, songwriting and performance are opportunities not only to inhabit beauty and connect with people, but to be present to moments of magic that are beyond the control of any individual involved.
